[Class 120 (ii)] Yarn or thread is cross wound on a bottle bobbin by a thread guide which has a reciprocatory movement imparted to it from one run of a reciprocatory endless chain or band with respect to which the guide is also displaced in such a way that it is progressively advanced along the bobbin to build the yarn package. As shown the thread guide i is carried by a sleeve k slidable on a rod g and connected to the endless chain or belt q by a spring clip k<1>. The belt is driven by a cord w from the bobbin spindle A, the cord driving a pulley y geared to a pair of bevel pinions n, n<1> loose on the plain portion of a screwed shaft h and having teeth extending over half of their peripheries and relatively displaced through 180‹ so that they alternately engage a bevel pinion o on the shaft r carrying the belt or chain pulley p ; the belt or chain also passes over a pulley p<1> resiliently mounted on the cross-bar s connecting the tops of the rod g and shaft h. The rod g and shaft h are attached to a lever d swivelling about a pin a in the rail band the screwed spindle carries a feeder wheel u which is mounted in a yoke t and contacts first with the bottom of the bobbin and then with the succeeding yarn layers at each traverse so that it is rotated and moves up the screwed shaft carrying the yoke t with it, the tail t<1> of the yoke engaging the sleeve k at the end of its next downward movement, and causing it to slide on the chain to give a new lower limit to the traverse of the guide. The tension on the thread from the supply reel is maintained constant by a swinging bar controlled by a spring and over which the thread passes on its way to the bobbin, the downward movement of the bar towards the bobbin being limited by an adjustable stop.
