Abstract

496,588. Endless - belt conveyers. COOCH, J. F. June 8, 1937, No. 15892. [Class 78 (i)] An endless-belt conveyer, more particularly for the sorting of potatoes, &c., has the carrying surface of the belt formed of a plurality of parallel rollers 5 which rotate during the movement of the belt so as to turn the potatoes over and expose all their sides to inspection. The rollers may be plain or fluted, and are mounted in bearings 10a carried by two parallel endless chains 10 running over sprocket wheels 12, 14 on two parallel shafts 13, 15. The shaft 15 is power-driven, and the shaft 13 is carried in sliding bearings 19a adjustable by screws 21a to keep the chains 10 taut. The upper load-carrying span of rollers ride on run-ways 8 located at the ends of the rollers and, if desired, intermediately. On one or both of the outside run-ways is a stationary rack 7 meshing with a pinion 6 on one or both ends of the rollers, and effecting positive rotation thereof. The lower span of rollers is supported by a medial rail 22. The potatoes enter by a feed-board 3 and are delivered through a shoot 4 into sacks, &c. suspended by hooks 4a.
