Abstract

[Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XVII] The apparatus disclosed in the parent Specification is modified in that provision is made at 24, 25, 26 for removing pointed blanks from a stepped layer, already gummed at V by the first gumming device and dried, and re-stepping them in the opposite way so that the gummer 35 will gum the side flaps at S disposed adjacent the gummed areas V with which they co-operate in the sealing of the envelopes. The suction discs 26 and the rolls 24, 25 are driven faster than the belts 55, 56 to effect the re-stepping of the pointed blanks, whereas, by a gear change, they may be moved at the same speed as the belts 55, 56 to operate on the envelope &c. blanks disclosed in the parent Specification.
