495,641. Illuminant enclosures ; incandescent electric lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 26, 1937, No. 11902. Convention date, April 25, 1936. [Classes 39 (ii) and 75 (ii)] An illuminant enclosure for use in a liquid comprises an ellipsoidal reflecting portion A with foci F, F<11> and a coaxial hyperboloidal transmitting portion B with foci F, F<1>, the eccentricity of the hyperboloid being equal to the refractive index of the liquid divided by that of air. The light source is placed at the focus F", preferably along the axis of the enclosure, and the emergent beam is parallel to said axis. The enclosure may be the bulb of an incandescent electric lamp with its filament at the focus F<11>.
