Abstract
494,104. Draw - off mechanism for circular knitting - machines. CLARKE, A. V. April 20, 1937, No. 11282. [Class 74 (ii)] Draw-off mechanism, for use particularly in circular knitting-machines, comprises fabricengaging rollers 11a, a circular track 24 and a wheel 23 which rolls around the track and drives the rollers via gearing 18-22. When the rollers climb the fabric the wheel is lifted slightly from the track and slip occurs between the wheel and the track. The rollers and wheel are journalled in a frame 10 resiliently supported on springs 30 which rest on an annular plate 26 rotated in unison with the needle cylinder (not shown) of a rotating-cylinder knitting-machine from a shaft 34. Sleeves 33 enclose the springs. The arrangement is such that during normal rotational knitting the take-up speed is slightly greater than the speed at which fabric is produced, so that periodically the rollers 11a climb the fabric (the sleeves 29 sliding up the pins 28). The pressure of the wheel on the track may be varied by screwing the sleeve 29 up or down, e.g. down to take the weight of the rollers &c. off the track. As applied to a stationary cylinder machine, the track 24 is rotated and the frame 10 stationary. The driving connection 35a, 35b, which does not transmit drive to the fabric take-up mechanism during oscillatory knitting, is the subjectmatter of Specification 494,014.
