492,534. Moulding-machines. SMITH, R. P., and McCABE, A. R. March 25, 1937, No. 8910. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups I and VI] Grain is compressed in a mould 1 the bottom of which is closed by a plate 3 supported by the piston 5 of a hydraulic cylinder 6 : hoppers 7, 8, discharge the grain into the mould through shoots 9, 10 which may be heated by steam pipes. The grain may pass down a shoot against a countercurrent of steam and subsequently be subjected to dry heat before entering the mould. Flour may be discharged into the mould through a jet 11. The mould may be heated by electricity or by a steam coil. The top of the mould is closed by a compression plate 14 actuated by a hydraulic cylinder 16. The compressed blocks may be coated with wax or enclosed in metal containers.
