Abstract
540,115. Composition fuel. MORLEY, H., and MORLEY, L. L. April 26, 1940, No. 7522. [Class 50] A process for making solid fuel blocks for fires consists in grinding together a mixture of wet coal slack and clay, the proportions being between equal quantities and a weight of clay double that of the coal slack, compressing the mixture into blocks, and heating the blocks to a red heat. According to one modification a layer of coal slack is placed in the base of a mould of a block-making press and the mould is then nearly filled with a mixture of wet coal slack and double its weight of moist clay the mixture being covered with coal slack and pressed into a block which is then heated to a dull red heat and allowed to cool off. The block is then sprayed with tar oil or creosote and dusted with slack. According to another modification equal parts of the clay and slack are ground in a mill and pressed into semi-cylindrical bores which are clamped together and heated until red-hot, the blocks in this case not requiring spraying.
