Abstract

492,173. Valves. PARKER, A. L. March 15, 1937, Nos. 7476 and 7477. Convention dates, July 13, 1936 and Sept. 23, 1936. [Class 135] A rotary cylindrical valve member has a flexible metallic wall and spring means disposed within said member and movable therewith adapted to bear locally against the wall and flex it locally into the ports when the valve is closed whereby effecting a tight sealing contact around the edges of the ports. In the form shown in the Figure, the ends of the spring 28 are secured in the closed end of the valve member while the lower part engages a slot 26 in a member 27 having a screw-threaded engagement with a removable cover 15. As the valve member is moved to the closed position by manipulating a handle 21, the screwed member is raised to increase the tension on the spring 28. In a modification the spring has two arms bearing on the valve member adapted to be spread apart by a screw engaging the closed end of the valve member and an expanding washer.
