Abstract

507,878. Stop valves. KERMODE, D., and COCKSHOTT, H. Oct. 13, 1938, No. 29642. [Class 135] In a valve or cock comprising a ported sleeve 3 rotatable in a ported casing 1, a spindle 8 having a conical surface 12 pressed by a spring 14 against a corresponding surface in the casing to prevent leakage, and lug and notch means 10, 11 to connect the spindle and sleeve, the sleeve is split from end to end between the ports so that fluid pressure within the sleeve expands it into fluid-tight contact with the casing when the valve is wholly or partly open. The spring 14 is housed in a recess in the valve cover 13 and abuts a cap 15 secured to the spindle by a cotter 16. The cap 15 has depending fingers or a cutaway flange 17 co-operable with a stop pin 18. The sleeve may be split axially as shown, or at an inclination to, the axis of the sleeve.
