Abstract
491,385. Brackets for posts; scaffolding ; stands. SIDWELL, R. R. March 4, 1937, Neo. 6444. [Classes 20 (i) and 20 (ii)] [Also in Group XIV] A bracket for connecting articles to upright scaffold poles, or to other kinds of poles, pillars and the like, comprises two or more flanged segments F adapted to fit together when arranged in contact with the pole A and to fit into a peripheral space provided between a member B secured at any desired position to the pole. Further, the flanges of the segments rest upon the top of the member B which member is in the form of a hollow sleeve or ferrule or split collar and is secured to the pole by a set screw C or other fastening device. The segments shown have portions G of reduced thickness and, when in position, rest upon a ledge of the sleeve B. The flanges have holes H for the attachment of articles, or such articles may be cast integrally with the segments or welded to them. In a modification, the member B comprises two semicircular members adapted to fit on opposite sides of the pole and to be clamped together and to the pole by screws passing through laterally extending flanges thereof. In another modification, the segments are formed with depending portions adapted to fit around the outer surface of the sleeve. The brackets mav be adapted for use with posts of circular, triangular, square, hexagonal, or of any other cross-section. In one application of the invention, Fig. 6 (not shown), the segments are formed integral with the tiers of plates. of a cake stand.
