Abstract

642,386. Scaffolding. KWIKFORM, Ltd. Dec. 19, 1945, No. 32528/47. Divided out of 642,367. [Class 20(ii)] A scaffold frame unit comprises in combination two vertical tubular members 21, 22 rigidly and permanently connected together by a horizontal member 23 which is adapted to engage and support a staging or platform extending transversely of the frame unit, and a pair of clamping devices 25 secured permanently to the frame unit which are adapted for clamping engagement with tubular ledgers 29 to secure the unit to a second similar frame unit or other structure, said clamping devices being disposed one adjacent to each junction between the said horizontal and vertical members of the frame unit and each comprising a bracket 26 of substantially U shape including a pair of limbs connected together at one of their ends by a connecting part, the opposite ends 27 of the limbs being permanently secured one to the horizontal member 23 and the other to the vertical member 21 or 22 so as to leave between the limbs a transverse opening 28 to receive the ledgers by a movement along its length, the connecting part being provided with a nut or threaded socket 30 in which works a clamping screw 31 adapted for clamping engagement with the ledgers. The diameter of the horizontal member 23 is somewhat less than that of the other tubular members of the structure so that when the ledgers 29 are tightly clamped they are at such a level that, when putlogs are laid across them, a level support in the staging is provided. The inner end of the clamping screw is rotatably connected to a pressure plate 32 curved to engage with the ledgers, the pressure plate being provided along opposite edges with spaced ears 33 which engage one on each side of the bracket to prevent it from rotating, and the outer end of the clamping screw has a hole 34 for a tommy bar. The frame unit has oblique bracing members between the bottoms of the vertical members and the middle of the horizontal member, or a pair of vertically spaced horizontal bracing members, or another' horizontal member at the bottom with clamping devices at its junctions with the vertical members.
