Abstract

490,548. Pipe joints. STAVELEY COAL & IRON CO., Ltd., and FREER, E. Feb. 18, 1938, No. 5214. [Class 99 (i)] In a stuffing-box joint the gland is in two parts 21, 26 having interengaging stepped helical surfaces 23, 27. The ring 26 and the socket have gapped flanges 28, 17 which engage when the ring is rotated within the socket. The gland rings are internally tapered and the base of the socket is widened at 13, so as to permit a flexible joint. The rubber gasket 16 has a lead heel 20. U.S.A. Specification 1,911,659 is referred to.
