Abstract
490,458. Forced - flow steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Dec. 18, 1936, No. 34797. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1935. [Class 123 (ii)] In a forced-flow boiler having a number of long, small bore parallel connected tubes A ... H supplied with feed from a distributer 204 through resistors 205 which ensure constant proportional distribution to the tubes, the mixture of water and steam from a feed heater 202 is passed through an air heater 207, before entering the distributer, to condense the steam, which would prevent the proper distribution of the feed. The vaporizing tubes may be arranged as described in Specification 490,457 to form a U-shaped gas passage, a burner being provided at the top of one limb and the gases passing upwards over vaporizing and feedheating tubes in the other limb. The vaporizing tubes discharge tangentially into a separator 232, the excess water from which is used to heat combustion air in a primary heated 206 and to heat the feedwater in a direct contact heater 354. The feed pump 289 is driven by a turbine 287, which also drives the fuel and air pumps 290, 288. Each resistor consists of a long smallbore tube of greater flow resistance than the vaporizing tube to which it is connected.
