Abstract

486,367. Closures for containers. BOENECKE, A. July 9, 1937, No. 19110. Convention date, Nov. 28, 1936. [Classes 18, 66, and 125 (iii)] A box, tin, drum, &c. 14 Fig. 3, made in one piece has its one open end closed by a push-on cover 15 also made in one piece, the cover being held in position by hooked lugs 16 of non-metallic material, e.g. artificial resin, on the end of the container which are passed through apertures 18 in the cover and engage the top thereof. An upstanding flange 20 on the cover is cut away adjacent the apertures to take the lugs 16. The cover seats on a packing ring 21. In a modification, the lugs 23, Fig. 8, are formed on the cover and the corresponding apertures 24 and abutments 25 for the lugs, on the end of the container. In this modification, the packing ring is housed in a groove 21 in the cover. The lugs may project inwardly or outwardly. Delivery apertures are formed in the cover by breaking through a portion of reduced thickness which portion can be further weakened by outlining it on the inside by a #-shaped groove. Alternatively, a raised boss outlined by a portion of reduced thickness is provided. This last construction can be applied to the container shown in Fig. 12 where the closed end of the container is formed with a boss 35 and a weakening groove 36. An ordinary cap lid 37 also is provided.
