Abstract
481,955. Variable - speed gearing. VILLARES, L. D. June 16, 1936, No. 16768. Void. Convention date, June 17, 1935. [Class 80 (ii)] An expansible pulley for providing a variablespeed drive for use with a belt 1 of trapezoidal cross-section comprises two axially movable halves 2, 2 which are each built up of concentric rings 3, 4, and 5. Axial movement of the two halves together moves the belt outwards to increase the effective size of the pulley. On the two halves coming into contact, the inner rings 3 and 4 are moved successively against springs 9 and 11 relatively to the outer ring 5 to enable a greater variation of diameter to be obtained.
