Abstract
400,282. Cam mechanism. PITTER, W. C., 59, Bower Hill, Epping, Essex. April 20, 1932,No.11711/33. Divided on 400,228. [Class 80 (iii).] In speed-reduction gearing of the type in which radial plungers reciprocate in an annular member and are operated by one or more cams on a drive shaft and intermittently engage a rack, the plungers are made rectangular in cross section and carry rollers which run on a floating ring mounted on ball bearings on a cam eccentric. If the annular member is fixed the rack is carried by the driven member and vice versa. The plungers p, Fig. 6, move in guides in a ring g and are held to the floating ring r by rings r<3> which are either housed in recesses p<2>, Fig. 2, of the plungers p, or pass round the outsides of the rollers. In Fig. 8 two pairs of rings are shown and two eccentrics e<1>, e<2>. The drive shaft is is mounted in ball bearings in a boss on the plunger guide g<1>; the bosses of the guides g, g<1> are mounted in roller bearings in the casing c<1>. In a modified construction shown in Fig. 9 the plunger guide slots are formed in a flange g on a hub h<1>, open sides of the slots being closed by a flange g<2> on a hub h<2> which houses the inner end of the drive shaft is. The ratio of the gear may be increased by arranging a number of units coaxially in series, the plunger guide member of one unit being coupled to or extended to form the drive shaft of the next unit.
