Abstract
479,216. Vehicles with removable bodies; arrangement of wheels. BARKER, S., and DYSON & CO., Ltd., R. A. Oct. 13, 1936, No. 27732. [Classes 103 (iv), 108 (i), and 108 (ii)] Road vehicles adapted to be conveyed by a railway truck and supported thereon by their road wheels are provided with auxiliary wheels or rollers which when the road wheel tyres deflate support the road vehicle by bearing rails provided on the railway truck. The road vehicle provided with wheels 3 having pneumatic tyres is also provided with auxiliary wheels or rollers 4 preferably externally to the road wheels and adapted to be just clear of rails 7 carried by side plates 8 on the railway truck 6. On any deflation of the tyre of the wheel 3 the auxiliary wheel 4 is adapted to rest on the rail 7. Fig. 3 shows a roller 10 which is provided with a flange 12 for connection to the hub cap 11, the roller 10 being adapted to rest on the rail 7 on any deflation of the tyre. The plates 8 serve to position the vehicle transversely. If desired the rails 7 may be positioned so that the auxiliary wheels 4, 10 normally bear part of the load.
