Abstract
477,374. Chimney &c. cowls. HUNT, J. B. June 29, 1936, No. 18017. [Class 25] In a chimney or ventilating-shaft cowl in which the confronting faces of inner and outer apertured or interrupted walls 1 and 2 define a plurality of Venturi passages 10, the inner faces of the outer wall are convex and the outer faces of the inner wall are concave as viewed from the axis of the cowl. The chimney or shaft communicates through a base 6 with the casing defined by the inner wall 1 and smoke or air is exhausted through slots 8 in the inner wall by the action of the atmospheric air currents passing through the passages 10. The inner casing may be divided by a diaphragm 21 formed with a central aperture from which an open-ended tube 22 extends downwardly into the base 6. A drainage outlet 23 is provided at the base of each passage 10.
