Abstract

522,708. Chimney cowls. YENDALL, F. E. Dec. 13, 1938, No. 36356. [Class 25] A cowl for chimneys, flues &c. comprises a casing member a, secured air-tight at its conical basepart a<SP>3</SP> to the chimney outlet b, conical baffle c surrounding the conical top a<SP>1</SP> of the member a spaced baffles d, e, f of varying conicity and decreasing external and internal diameters supported above the baffle c and a conical cap g having an internal smoke directing cap h supported above the baffle f. The members a, c, d are supported by vertical rods i fitting in the chimney and the remaining baffles and the cap g are supported by struts e<SP>1</SP>, f<SP>1</SP>, g<SP>1</SP>. The major portion of the smoke or combustion gases is stated to be deflected and discharged laterally by the cross air currents immediately on emergence from the member a.
