Abstract

474,644. Cables. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 16, 1936, No. 19773. Convention date, July 16, 1935. [Class 36] A cable comprises a conductor covered with a cellulose ester applied in thin ribbons in one or more layers, a coating of a polymerized vinyl compound seamlessly sprayed on and an outer covering of a thermoplastic polymerized acrylic acid ester composition also seamlessly sprayed on. Additional coverings of fibre and metal wire to which a chlorinated caoutchouc varnish has been applied may also be provided. The conductors a', a<2> of a submarine cable have one or more layers b<1>, b<2> of cellulose triacetate applied thereto : a coating c<1>, c<2> of polymerized vinyl alcohol containing, if desired, softeners and a filler, such as tale, is sprayed thereon and after twisting, an outer covering d of polymerized acrylic acid ethyl ester containing fillers is sprayed on. The layer d may be of any of the compositions described in Specification 453,015. Over the insulating layers, is applied an oil-impregnated paper covering e, a jute serving and a wire covering f to which a chlorinated caoutchouc varnish is applied.
