Abstract
473,187. Coking processes and apparatus. WALLACE, G. W. April 3, 1936, No. 9839. [Class 55 (i)] Coal, especially coal slack, is fed from a hopper B on to a conveyer D on which it is moved in a thin layer of 2À5 to 4À5 inches in thickness in counter-current to hot combustion gases from inlets F, the distillates and heating gases leaving by an outlet I. The coke falls into a bin O provided with a pipe R for cooling gases, and a delivery valve P. The gas admitted at R controls the temperature of the combustion gases used for heating the charge. Part of the heating gases may pass over the layer of coal, and part may be passed below and upwardly through the layer, the conveyer being pervious to the passage of gases. In a modification, the heating gases may be admitted entirely below the conveyer so as to pass upwardly through the charge, a scavenging gas being passed over the charge, if desired, to sweep out the distillates. The heatinggases and distillates from above the charge may be passed through a flue to below the conveyer to the outlet. Excess of combustible gas should be present in the heating gases. Specification 341,606 is referred to.
