Abstract
431,896. Distilling and gasefying solid carbonaceous materials. LEFEVRE, J., 9, Duguesclin, Chesnay, Seine-et-Oise, France. Aug. 13, 1934, No. 23343. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1933. [Class 55 (i)] Solid fuel such as coal is fed from a hopper 15 into the space in a preheated container 1 above incandescent coke 5, the layer of fuel being distilled by heat radiated from the preheated walls of the container and from the coke. In the first period, preheated air from an inlet 14 is blown through the hot coke, and secondary air heated in channels 11 is admitted through openings 12 to burn the blow gases which pass through and heat a shaft 10. When the coal is charged on to this hot coke, distillates are evolved which pass to an outlet 13, and water gas is also obtained by passage of steam from a pipe 24 through the shaft 10 and duct 17 leading to inlets 16, the water gas issuing with the distillates. Valves 22, 23 isolate the shaft 10, and control the supply of combustion gases and steam to the shaft 10 and fuel 5 respectively.
