Abstract
472,558. Heel pads. PHILLIPS RUBBER SOLES, Ltd., and EYLES, G. F. May 8, 1936, No. 13072. [Class 17 (iii)] A composite heel pad of boot heel shape in outline comprises a base portion 1, Figs. 3 and 5, of rubber or equivalent material, in which is formed a wedge-shaped recess 2 extending completely across it, and a piece 6, Fig. 6, of leather or equivalent material fitting the said recess. The sides of the leather wedge bear against the front and rear parts 4 and 3 respectively of the base, which form the sides of the recess, so that the pad assumes a convex shape as viewed from the wearing side in which the recess is formed. One side of each coacting pair of sides of the recess in the rubber base and of the strip of leather may be vee-shaped as shown for example in Fig. 5, and the other side of the pair is at right-angles to the part on which it is formed. All four sides may be at right-angles to the parts on which they are formed. The rubber base portion may be moulded in a convex form as shown in Fig. 2, the piece of leather 6 tending to prevent the pad assuming a flat form. In the modifications shown in Figs. 17 and 22, the front portion of the rubber base is cut away and is covered by an extension of the leather strip 6, so that the rear part 3 is the only part of the rubber base exposed to wear. The complete heel pad may be of uniform thickness or may be thinner at the front than at the rear.
