Protectors, construction of. - A resilient sole or heel has a foundation of the material known under the registered Trade Mark " Uskide," " Dainite, " " Itshide," " Tulhide " or other homogeneous tough, pliable, rubber-like composition, which is flexible but only slightly resilient, and a. resilient tread of rubber or equivalent material -vulcanized to the foundation. The foundation may be hollowed out, as shown in Fig. 4, or may have circles or slots cut out, or, since its main function is to afford a secure hold for the stitches, may constitute a margin only, Fig. 6. A marginal lip 8 of the resilient tread may be left, so that the securing stitches may sink in and be obscured, or the edge of the resilient tread may be channelled for the stitches. The foundation material may be used in sheet form, a rubber pudding of the tread material being applied and the whole vulcanized in a mould. Alternatively, both foundation and tread materials may be in the form of pudding. Specification 254,940, [Class 17 (ii), Boots and shoes, Construction of], is referred to.
