Abstract
469,884. Finishing edges of sheet material. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and BOOTHROYD, H: Jan. 3, 1936, No. 224. [Class 42 (i)] In a machine for finishing the edges of leather &c. the work is fed continuously past a heated searing tool 26. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the electrically heated tool and its holder 24 are shaped so as to permit of a better view of the work by the operator. The holder 24 is clamped in a cradle 22 pivoted at 21 to a lever 18 pivoted at 14 in a casing 10 bolted at 11 to the overhanging arm 12 of the machine. The tool 26 is adjusted about the pivot 21 and to and from the turning post 42 by a screw 44 and spring 30. The tool 26 is raised and lowered by the lever 18 and a cam 87 on a shaft 86 carrying a thumb lever 88. The feed wheel 52 is adjustable by means of screws 56, 60 and 72 on a block 64 carried by links 68, 66 and can be raised and lowered by means of a second lever 80 mounted on the pivot 14, a spring 74 and a second cam on the shaft 86 carrying the thumb lever 88. The normal height of the wheel 52 is fixed by a screw 36. As shown in Fig. 3, the feed wheel 52 is again carried on a block 64 carried by links 66, 68, one pivot 168 projecting through the casing for engagement by one arm of a thumb lever 188. The searing tool 26 is flame heated and carried by a block 148 pivoted at 129 to the lever 188 and working between two cheeks 150 of the casing 10. The tool 26 is adjusted to and from the turning post 42 by a screw 144 and spring 146. Specifications 357,646, [Group XV], 452,433, 456,064, 457,926, 459,449 are referred to.
