Abstract

573,428. Cutting tobacco leaf &c. LEGG, Ltd., R., and SCHREIBER, P. Q. R. Sept. 12, 1944, No. 10712/45. Divided out of Complete Specification of 573,416. Drawings to Specification. [Class 5 (i)] A rotary knife-assembly is mounted adjacent to feeding-mechanism comprising jaws 4, 5, shown in Fig. 3 of the abridgment of Specification 573,416, and converging belts 2, 3. The upper jaw 4 is movable, being mounted on a parallel linkage 7, 8 of which the pivots 9, 10 are set above and below the axis of the knifeassembly when this is in cutting position. Hydraulic pressure from an oil pump acts on the belt 2 and jaw 4 to press downwardly on the leaf. Both belts are acted on by support rollers 49, 50 and at the ends remote from the cutting device pass over rollers mounted in adjustable journals. The knife-assembly may be reciprocated between the leaf-feeding mechanism and grinding mechanism as described in Specification 573,416; the construction of the knife assembly is described in Specifications 573,416 and 573,427.
