Abstract
A vacuum pan with an annular concave base 3 has adjacent the centre of the base an inlet for fluids to be directed radially of the vessel for assisting circulation of the material in a vertical plane. The inlet jet, which may be of annular form and is directed along or at an angle to the base, is formed by an adjustable spindle 6, carrying a conical cap 5 with a lower edge 9 co-operating with an edge 10 of a recess at the centre of the pan. Liquids or gases enter by a pipe 11 from inlets 12--15. The pan has a steam-heating space between side walls 1 and a central wall 2 with tubes 4 for passage of material. The jet may be formed by a cap piece 16 normally closed on a fixed seating 17 by an adjustable spring 18 and is raised by pressure of entering fluid. The seating 17 is integral or is co-linear with the base of the pan. The jet may be formed by an annular truncated conical member at the lower end of a vertical inlet pipe adjustably held by a bolt above the projecting centre of the pan base. <PICT:0469231/III/1> <PICT:0469231/III/2>
