Abstract
468,630. Discharge apparatus. LEHMANN, W. Jan. 4, 1936, No. 393. Convention date, Jan. 4, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] A discharge device e.g. a mercury-vapour rectifier, which corn prises a metallic ves sel formed from a number of sections welded together, de gassed at high tem perature, and per manently sealed of from the pump, is cooled by a current of gas such as air A rectifier comprises the welded iron sec tions 1, 2, 23, 24 Fig. 1, main anodes 20 which may be circularly arranged exciting anodes 22 and a leading-in con ductor 35 for the cathode which is contained in a quartz bowl 25. Leaks may be detected by filling the device with ammonia and applying mercurous nitrate to the external surface thereof. The device is heated to 200‹ C. to 400‹ C. and evacuated, and may be provided with six main anodes and three exciting anodes ; the electrode arrangement may be such that an exciting electrode follows two main anodes. Air is drawn downwardly by the fan 30 through the shafts 28, 29, 32. A switchboard may be screened, and also supported, by a cowl 33. The rectifier may be provided with leading-in arrangements for the anodes and cathode as described in Specification 456,482.
