468,126. Rolling tubes. STEWARTS & LLOYDS, Ltd. (Alfina Immobilien-Finanzierungs & Verwaltungs Akt.-Ges.) Jan. 21, 1937, No. 1876. [Class 83 (iv)] A tube billet L is lengthened in a push bench to at least 10 times its length in a number of roll passes exceeding the ratio of extension (10) and the passes are spread out so that when the tube enters the last pass it reaches back to at least one-third or one-half the length of the total passes and so is acted on by at least one-third or one-half of the passes at one time. The total length of the roll passes, 11 L, is less than the finished tube length 13L. The trough diameter d of the rolls of the first pass does not exceed its pass diameter D by more than 20 per cent, and the trough diameter of any other pass is less than the trough diameter d of the rolls of the largest pass. The ratio of trough diameter to pass diameter decreases gradually from the last pass towards the first pass.
