Abstract
445,248. Rolling tubes. ALFINA IMMOBILIEN-FINANZIERUNGS & VERWALTUNGS AKT.-GES., Glarus, Switzerland. Oct. 26, 1935, No. 29594. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1934. [Class 83 (iv)] A cup-shaped billet is pushed by a mandrel through undriven tube-forming rolls which rapidly reduce the cross-section to at least <1>/5 of its initial area; the number of roll passes K1 to Kn are at least equal to the proportionate reduction (i.e. 5/1) and the ratio of roll diameter to pass diameter (i.e. tube diameter) varies from at least 0À3 in the first pass to at most 2À5 at the last pass. The trough diameter of the roll in the largest pass is smaller than the diameter of the pass and increases successively in each reducing pass until it is greater than the last pass diameter. These proportions are said to prevent the mandrel from pushing through or leaving the tube. The pass may be formed by three coacting rolls shaped so that only the middle 60 arc of the groove surface of each roll bears on the tube.
