Abstract
468,111. Spinning-mules. SPINNEREI COSSMANNSDORF GES. Sept. 9, 1936, No. 24562. Convention date, Feb. 4. [Class 120 (ii)] In a self-acting mule the drawing rollers are driven through a lamellar or multi-plate clutch 9 arranged between the rim-shaft 1 and the front roller shaft 6. The rimshaft 1 carries a bevelwheel 2 engaging a bevel-wheel 3 keyed on a bush 5 loose on the shaft 6 and which widens out into a cup 5b which carries one set of laminĀµ 9, the other set being carried by a block 11 keyed at 10 to the shaft 6, a thrust bush 13 having a widened end 13<a> and slidable on the shaft 6 against a coil spring 12 being provided to press the plates together. Relative rotation between the block 11 and bush 13 is prevented by pins 14. The cup 5<b> is constantly driven from the shaft 1 while, during the outward run, the toothed wheel 15 loose on the shaft 6 is driven from the drag chain drum at the same speed as the shaft 6, the rotation causing the cams 13<c> to move the thrust member 13 so as to press the plates 9 together and the wheel 15 constantly leading the shaft 6 so as to maintain the clutch plates in contact. At the end of the outward run, the wheel 15 ceases to be driven and the spring 12 disengages the clutch plates.
