Abstract
461,229. Ironing machines. GEE, H. T. P. (Beatty Bros., Ltd.) July 3, 1936, No. 18574. [Class 138 (ii)] The movement of the bed 15 into and out of operative engagement with the roller 10 and the starting and stopping of the roller are controlled from a common shaft 34 having an operating handle 35. The shaft is provided with two cams 33, 36, of which the cam 33 acts on a yoke 32, Fig. 4, engaging an annular groove in a half-clutch member 25. The latter is slidably and non-rotatably mounted on the roller shaft 11 on which a constantly running worm wheel 23 having axial clutch teeth 24 is mounted. The clutch 25 is moved by a spring 27 into engagement with the worm wheel but is maintained out of engagement therewith by the cam 33 when the latter is in the full line position. The cam 36, Fig. 2, acts on a roller 20 on an arm 19 secured to the shaft 17 about which the arm 18 carrying the bed 15 is pivoted. To render the cam 33 non-effective whilst the cam 36 remains effective, whereby the roller may remain stationary with the bed in contact therewith so that the machine may function as a press, a manually rotatable cam 38, Fig. 4, is provided to act on an arm 40 secured to the yoke 32 whereby the latter may be retained in its elevated position and hold the clutch member 25 against the spring 27 and out of engagement with the worm wheel.
