Abstract
193,192. Taylor, L. Dec. 10, 1921. Clutches, friction. - In expanding - band clutches for dyeing, bleaching, and fabric-finishing machines, machine tools, &c., a boss c, keyed to a shaft a, supports on its turned flange c' a cast iron or other split band g and has a gap c<2> to receive, an adjusting-screw d, against the head d' of which one end g<2> of the band abuts. The other end g<3> of the band contacts with the curved face e<1> of a rotary cam e housed in a pocket c' and retained therein by a grub-screw f engaging a groove in the cam or, according to the Provisional Specification, by a disc screwed to the inner end of the cam. The cam e is turned to expand the band against a drum b, running on a bush b<1>, by the action of a slidable cone h on a curved lever-extension e<2> of the cam or by other linkage. Two bands side bv side, expanded at diametrically-opposed points, may be used. Two clutches may be alternatively actuated by a double-coned sleeve.
