Abstract
466,657. Covering wires. THODE, A. Dec. 17, 1936, No. 34703. [Class 109] In a machine for covering wire with insulating material, e.g. asbestos, the wire feed device comprises one or more pairs of discs or drums 7, 8, mounted on parallel shafts and having relatively staggered guide grooves or tracks 6, 13-18, which receive the wire 2, in one or more loops each having two terminal circular arc portions and intermediate straight portions, the discs or drums being in rigid engagement with one another and with common driving means so that they are driven with equal peripheral speeds. The uncovered wire leaves reel 4 and passes through adhesive 5, thence through wire covering means at 3 into groove 6 of drum 7, to groove 6 of drum 8, to the lacquering device 9, the smoothing device 10, over rollers 11 and 12 to groove 13 of drum 7 thence to groove 14 of drum 8 and to and fro until it leaves drum 8 from groove 18 to the winding device 19. The drums are driven by pinions from driven shaft 32. The shaft of the drum 8 is adjustable as by rotation of one of its bearings 25 at 39 and by vertical adjustment on bracket 36.
