Abstract
465,607. Serpentine-tube heat-exchangers. TANSLEY, G. E. Nov. 9, 1335, No. 31036. [Class 64 (iii)] In a heat - exchanger, e.g. a feedwater heater, having tubes or groups of tubes connected in series by bends or headers, the joints between the tubes and the bends are relieved of stresses due to changes in temperature by stays secured to adjacent tubes or groups of tubes independently of the bends or headers. Thus, the tubes 1<a>, 1<b> of an exchanger provided with finnedsleeves are connected by a stay 4 secured by nuts 8 against the closure rings 6 on the ends of the sleeves. In a modification, the tubes are connected by interlocking collars 14, Fig. 4, one collar having a projection engaging with a slot in the other. Provision may be made for relative movement between the tubes by making the slot wider than the projection.
