Abstract

496,449. Straight - tube heat - exchangers. MULLER, P. H. March 22,1938, No. 8778. [Class 64 (iii)] [Also in Group XXII] The fins of twin-tube heat-exchange elements are formed with spacing collars having parts of reduced depth, as shown in Fig. 3, to permit access of solder to the joints between the collars and the tubes. The collars are pressed from fins having apertures of the shape shown in Fig. 1. Apparatus for heating or cooling gases may comprise twin-tube elements, disposed as in Figs. 7, 8 or 9, and welded to end headers of square cross-section, the gases being passed over the tubes and the heating or cooling medium through them. Fig. 10 shows an air-heating radiator having steam inlet and condensate outlet ducts f, h respectively. If a liquid heating medium is employed, it may be passed in series through the elements, the air being passed first over the last element of the series.
