Abstract
413,602. Straight-tube heat-exchangers. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd., Bush House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Compagnie des Surchauffers; 3, Rue la B÷etie, Paris.) Feb. 28, 1934, No. 6499. Convention date, March 6, 1933. [Class 64 (iii).] Tubular heat-exchangers comprising a tube rest extending between headers and enclosed in a casing to which one of the headers is fixed, the other being free to move in relation thereto, and of the kind in which the fluid passing through the tubes enters and leaves the apparatus at the same end, have a rigid connection between both headers and the tubes conveying fluid in one direction, whilst the tube or tubes conveying fluid in the opposite direction is rigidly connected with one header only and can expand freely. In the steam desuperheater 1, tubes 7 and a tube 9 surrounding a steam inlet tube 10 are fixed to the header tube plates 3, 8, whilst tube 10 has a rigid connection only at its lower end with a fixed part of the desuperheater. A number of tubes 10, either each one or all of them enclosed by a tube 9, may be provided. In a modification in which tube 9 is omitted tube 10 may be rigidly connected with either of the tube plates or with the wall of header 2 remote from its tube plate the tube at the other two of these places passing through the plate or wall in a steamtight manner as by means of packing glands. The header 2 may incorporate the tube plate 3 and a spigot portion constituting a steam inlet welded to tube 10 in an integral structure.
