[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 25, 1935.] [Class 17 (ii)] Shoe - upper materials are over-lasted and the inturned margins are secured to a member adjacent the sole face of a last, and an outwardly extending element forming part of or attached to the upper materials adjacent the point of securement of the upper to this member is secured beneath an inwardly extending marginal lip formed on the upper face of an outer sole, around the forepart only or the shank also. The upper materials 5, 6, may be secured in lasted relation to a rib 4 on an insole 1, which may if desired, be reinforced at 2, and the trimming knife is directed towards the outside of the shoe in the direction of the arrow to form an outwardly extending flange 8 below the inseam 7 which is locked below a rib 15 which conceals the inseam. The sole 12 is attached to the insole and upper by cement. The needle for the inseam may be of large size to permit cement to be squeezed into the holes. Modifications are described wherein a false welt is attached to the lip 15 of the sole to simulate the appearance of a welted shoe, and wherein the insole at the forepart comprises only a pair of flanged strips of fabric secured together in back-toback relation to form a sewing rib to which the lasted upper may be secured, the rib being temporarily secured as by cement to the last. Other modifications described comprise constructions wherein the insole has an aperture with bevelled wall cut out in its forepart and is reinforced with a fabric backing, and wherein the outwardly extending element referred to is constituted by a welt-like strip of material or by the projecting stitches the thread of which may be larger than usual.
