460,489. Centrifugal compressors. ESCRER WYSS MASCHINENFABRIKEN AKT.-GES. May 27, 1936, No. 14962. Convention date, May 27, 1935. [Class 110 (i)] A multi-stage centrifugal compressor, of which two impellers 1, 2 on a shaft 3 are shown, has a radial diffuser 4 after each impeller, and a passage 5 in which the direction of flow is deflected 180‹ and in which the cross-section diminishes by at least ten per cent from beginning to end. From the passage 5 the flow proceeds through a row containing a large number of guide blades, the distance t between the blades being not greater than the radial extent r of the blades 6. A small number of the blades, such as blades 7, 8, extend much nearer to the shaft than the others 6. The blades are streamlined in the direction of flow. The row of guide blades may be arranged before the passage 5 instead of being placed after it, or guide blades may be placed before and after it.
