Abstract
459,558. Arc converters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and GALLIZIA, E., c /o General Electric Co., Ltd., Witton, Birmingham. Sept. 20, 1935, No. 26126. [Class 39 (i)] The side arms 4, which contain the anodes 3, of a metalclad vapour - filled arc converter extend through the condensing chamber 5, to increase the surfaces cooled by gaseous fluid. The arms are housed in tubes 6, and air is blown by a fan 10 through the spaces between the tubes and the arms and is also guided over the container by a jacket 8. In another form the tubes 6 are extended downwardly to pass through the jacket 8 and air blown through the space between the container and the jacket induces a flow of air in the tubes 7. In a further form, the jacket 8 is extended partly to enclose the top of the container and the tubes 7 project through the jacket.
