[Class 60] To prevent vibration of the workpiece in a grinding- machine the headstock 1 and the gear-box or casing 6 through which the workpiece spindle 2 is driven are separately mounted on a displaceable slide 4 or on the machine bed 5, a layer 9 of vibration-damping material being provided beneath the gear - box 6. A shock-absorbing coupling such as a belt 8 is preferably employed for transmitting power from the gear box to the spindle 2. The driving motor may be secured to the upper or rear side of the gear box or it may be separately mounted and coupled by belt gearing to the driving shaft of the gear-box.
