638,877. Grinding. TAUBE, D. June 27, 1947, No. 17018. [Class 60] [Also in Group XXII] A combined metal planing and milling, or grinding, machine comprises means (see Group XXII) driven by an electric motor 1 for driving a rack 33 associated with a work-table 19 whereby the latter is reciprocated at a speed suitable for planing, and alternative means, also driven by an electric motor, for driving the rack 33 whereby the work-table is reciprocated at different speeds suitable for milling or grinding. When the machine is to be used for milling or grinding, the work-table is reciprocated by means of a worm 34 engageable with a worm whee] 35. The milling cutter 47, or rotary grinder, is angularly adjustable on a slide 43 which is horizontally displaceable on a vertically adjustable saddle 39, the shaft of the milling cutter, which is arranged between the saddle and gear-box, being driven through a gear-box from a motor-driven shaft 49. The milling cutter, or grinder, may be detached from the slide 43 and mounted on a cross-slide 37 in place of the planing tool carrier 38.
