624,737. Drawing and turning rod or wire. BRITISH ELECTRICAL & ALLIED INDUSTRIES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION, and ROBERTSON, T. S. Jan. 17, 1947, No. 1654. [Classes 83 (iii) and 83 (iv)] A machine for turning rod or wire, having a tool mounted in a rotary head to be slidable transversely, has the work-piece drawn past the cutting-edge of the tool, the tool-holder being provided with an offset mass arranged to urge the tool by centrifugal force into engagement with the work, such movement being limited by a stop. The rod or wire 1 is first drawn through a reducing die 2, the support 3 for which also carries a motor 23 and a housing 11 for the bearings 7 of a rotary tool-head 19. A diamond tool 16 is carried in a slide 14, the unbalanced mass 14 of which is driven outwardly on rotation to feed the tool into the work, adjustable stop-nuts 22 being provided to limit this movement. A bush 26 within the head guides the work adjacent the tool. A pulley 5 integral with the tool head receives the drive through a belt 25 from the motor pulley 24.
