Abstract

457,495. Fastenings. CHAPMAN, A. W., 115, Howard's Lane, Putney, London. May 31, 1935, No. 15935. [Class 44] [See also Group XIV] Releasing-means for the locking-mechanism of sliding members, such as vehicle seats, comprises an actuating-lever 2 which is pivoted at 7 on a second lever 1 fulcrumed on one slide member 5 and is adapted, by movement in either direction, to rock the lever 1 always in the same direction. Thus, if the lever 2 is lifted, as shown, it abuts against the forward edge 6 of the part 5 and lifts a catch 9 on the spring-pressed lever 1 from one of a series of slots 11 in the base of the fixed slide member 8, while depression of the lever 2 causes its nose 14 to abut the under face of the member 5 with the same effect. The parts may be pivoted to move laterally, the slots 11 being provided in a side of the member 8. Modifications are described in which the lever 1 actuates a separate locking-lever or sliding bolt as described in Specification 444,752, one such form being illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown). In another modification, the levers 1, 2 and a separate locking lever or bolt all move in a transverse plane. Specification 384,595, [Group XIV], also is referred to.
