Abstract

The flow of the mixture of oils and finely divided carbonaceous material through the inclined rotary retort described in Specification 393,601 is controlled by the provision of a honeycomb structure. This comprises at the <PICT:0452702/III/1> upper end of the retort 1 longitudinal and circumferential flanges 25, 24; as shown, the longitudinal flanges 25 extend further down the retort, and the lower end of the retort has plain walls.
