Abstract

451,840. Filtering-stoppers. CHAPMAN, H. E., 94, Village Way, Pinner, Middlesex. Feb. 10, 1936, No. 15200. Divided out of 451,839. [Class 125 (iii)] An air filtering stopper for use with bottles, &c containing medical, &c. pro ductions comprises a mould ed rubber body 1 which engages the bottle-neck 3 having a central chamber 4 from which two curvec ducts 5 and 6 extend. A filter pad 1 is provided ir the chamber 4. At the remote end of the duct 5 a conica nozzle 8 is situated which can be closed by depressing the plug 11. An air inlet 12 is provided at the enc of the duct 6 so that air entering the bottle must traverse the ducts and pad to the nozzle 8. The parts 9, 10 are of rubber and can be punctured by a hypodermic needle at suitable points such as 13. The filter 7 contains a suitable bactericide or fungicide. Alcohol may be used in the dished roof as a detergent and as a lubricant for the needle. The air outlet 8 projects above the part 9 of the stopper. In a modification the ducts 5 and 6 constitute a C.shaped recess in the cap with the inlet at one end and the outlet at the other and separated by a projection on the filter. In a further modification the ducts are formed by skins which are impervious to air and fixed in the filter pad. In a still further modification the invention is adapted for use with larger vessels such as canisters.
