Abstract

448,472. Vapour burners. TURLEY & WILLIAMS (1925), Ltd., and SMITH, C. D., 2, Green Street, Deritend, Birmingham. Jan 5, 1935, No. 400. [Class 75 (i)] The pipe 4 feeding liquid fuel from a pressure reservoir 1 to a vapour burner extends nearly to the bottom of a small chamber 7 provided with an oil inlet 9 carried by a tube 5 which surrounds the pipe 4 and is formed with air inlets 10. When the fuel control valve 18 is opened a mixture of fuel and air is discharged from the vaporizer jet into the burner 15 owing to the compressed air in the reservoir 1 passing down the tube 5 and blowing the fuel up the tube 4. This mixture is ignited and when the vaporizer 12 reaches a vaporizing temperature the back vapour pressure reduces the mixture supply sufficiently for the fuel entering by the orifice 9 to seal the lower end of the pipe 4 so that only fuel is subsequently supplied to the vaporizer. The orifice 9, which may be protected by a gauze screen, is of smaller diameter than the vaporizer jet. A removable plug may be arranged in the union above the pipe 4 to facilitate cleaning and a choke pin 20 may be provided. The burner mixing tube may be provided with a sump 17 into which unburnt fuel will drain.
