Abstract
443,767. Thermionic valves. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Sept. 16, 1935, No. 25677. Convention date, Sept. 15, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] The metal envelope of a valve has a pocket or dent in which the getter is located. In one form Fig. 2, a cylindrical metal envelope 1 has a circular dent 18 in which a magnesium getter pellet is retained by a welded - on shield 19. The electrode leads are taken out through a metal member 3 closing the envelope at seals 17, and a metal shield 20 which extends up to the lower of two mica spacers fitting in the envelope 1 protects them from the getter. The shield 20 is secured to the member 3 and is connected to the cathode so that the whole container is at cathode potential. In a modification, Fig. 3, the getter is retained in an annular groove 22 in the envelope. A metal plate 30, with openings 31, fits tightly about the supports of a suppressor grid. The grid posts 23, 24, 25 are spaced by a mica disc 26 fitting in the inner portion 27 of the envelope.
