[Class 44] A window fastening of the type in which the movable member pivots on an axis substantially at right angles to the plane of the window is adapted to hold the window closed or in partly open position, the arrangement being such that the window must be fully closed before the fastening can be released to allow free opening of the window. In Fig. 1 the catch member 2, operable by handle 3 and spaced from the window 1 by distance piece 5, secures the window in closed position by engagement with the inner face 14 of a boxlike keeper 10, as shown. To hold the window partly open, member 2 is passed along slot 13 into contact with the closed end 15 of the keeper, and is then engaged in the offset slot 16. Figs. 10, 11 show a modification in which a bar 17 off-set from the pivot 19 has a transverse extension or head 21 at its outer end and a nose 22 at its inner end adjacent to a gap 23. The co-operating keeper has two plate-like parts 25<a> with intervening gap 26. To hold the window partly open the bar 17 is engaged in gap 26 with the head 21 bearing against the faces of plates 25<a>, and is held against accidental movement inwards by limited rotation to engage the upper plate 25<a> in a shallow recess 24. In this position free rotation about pivot 19 is impossible. When the window is closed gap 23 registers with the plates 25<a> and rotation may then be effected to engage either of the plates 25<a> in the gap 23 to secure the window closed, or to move the fastening clear of the keeper to allow free opening of the window.
