Abstract
528,082. Door-operating appliances and stops; fastenings. SCHONITZER, R. I. April 27, 1939, No. 12606. [Classes 44 and 65 (i)] Door holding and control mechanism comprises a pivoted member 14 mounted on a door and co-operating with a fixed keeper 17 on the door frame by means of a latch finger 12 which holds the door in closed position, and a dooropening member 13 which starts the opening of the door when the member 14 is turned clockwise. In the closed position of the door, the member 14 is wedged between the fixed pair 17 and another fixed abutment 60 which may consist of a spring-pressed wedge, or a pivoted cam, or a flat surface engaged by a pivoted cam on 14. This wedging prevents any movement of the door in the axial hinge direction. Either finger 12 or 13 may be omitted. The spindle 21 carrying 14 mounts a plate 24 adapted to be turned to operate 14 by a spring 32 and held against movement by a pivoted detent 40 engaging 24 at 44 and moved to releasing position by a push button 50. In another form a lever is pivoted on 17 and serves as the lower wedge abutment for 14. Specifications 403,853 and 501,613 are referred to.
